The aims and objectives of the TLC Appeal

Teddies for Loving Care Appeal or TLC Appeal

(Registered Charity No 1087765)

The Appeal has a simple objective. To provide teddies or soft toys to A&E units:-

for the medical staff to give, at their discretion, to children who are in severe distress,  where the staff feel that a teddy to cuddle will help alleviate that distress, that will  assist them in their urgent work.

The children take the teddies home with them.

“It’s not just a teddy bear it’s so much more”

 Hello,

I just wanted to say thank you so much for the lovely teddy that my 1 year old son was given in Stafford hospital last week. He had to have rather distressing treatment and the gift of the teddy at the end cheered him up very much. It is a lovely idea and we were very grateful.

 Thank you again

Thank you so much for your wonderful bears. My 14 month old daughter was taken to Maidstone Hospital early hours of 4th May 2011 due to her having a fit, by Ambulance. On arrival at the dept, one of the nurses gave her one of your bears.

The following night, I had to attend again with her and this time, she was given another bear by the Ambulance crew. Even though she was unwell, this still managed to bring a smile to her face.

I have never heard of your charity but am glad someone has thought of such a wonderful idea.

Many thanks for your wonderful teddies which have my daughter a bit happier in hospital

Just wanted to write a little note to say a sincere thank you for what you are doing.

Our nearly three year old daughter Regan is what some might call a fearless tomboy, as a result she's always injuring herself and usually just brushes it off without a second thought. We've had to attend our local A&E in Wigan a few times and although they've been brilliant, one thing made the service provided at West Mendip Community Hospital

Walk-in Centre on a recent trip different - the TLC teddy that Regan was given to help alleviate her distress whilst the nurses attended to the burn she had sustained to her shoulder. Thank you so much for the work you are doing, it really did help and Ashleigh (named after the nurse who first saw us) is being introduced to a LOT of people as the teddy from the hospital!! Mind you, I think expectations have been raised now - when we went back to have her dressing changed it took some convincing that she couldn't have a red teddy to call Al (after the nurse helping her that day) and that the teddies were needed for other boys and girls who were upset!!

As a health professional myself I can see what an amazing help your work must be to the nursing and medical staff in our country’s A&E departments whilst providing a great deal of distraction and comfort to children and their families - I applaud you.

Kindest regards
